Condon takes this story on two fronts. The opening centers around Illyana Rasputin taking what’s hers. The confrontation with Belasco proves triumphant in her favor. Using his over-confidence against him leads Magik to strike without pause. The writing shows her defiance with each move in the room. It leads into her final phase as she awaits her challengers in waiting. Their path comes with more troubles appear to come to the surface.

Wolverine and Jean Grey’s trek gives them an early obstacle with a soldier attacking them. Normally, this is a routine confrontation for Logan. The writing leads to some fast action. Its’ fallout is what causes the more issue at hand. The fight triggers an old plot point of the series. Seeing Logan appear in this manner causes more angst than is needed for Jean to deal with. Readers watch as the event leads to some brutal retaliation. No punches are pulled. There’s a sense of heightened fear looming as Logan’s unpredictable nature is a direct problem. The fallout is extreme but necessary. It serves a catalyst for the inevitable last stand ahead.

The art team wastes no time in showcasing Magik’s wicked power play. The deception on Belasco commence with a near full shot of the first strike. Magik’s close-up with an evil smile closes out the brutal opening. It serves as a pace setter for what’s forthcoming. Readers know with any Wolverine story, there’s going to be some brutal action behind it.

Logan’ confrontation with a soldier is textbook in delivery. The panels mimic the rage pouring out of the living weapon. This transitions into a quiet switch into the problem at hand. Logan’s close-ups tip off the change. Once in completion, the fight escalates quickly. This goes the way most Logan fights go. Fans will enjoy the violence on display. A half panel shot shows Logan on the attack. It’s countered in a most vicious way. The issue wraps up with a final panel indicating the end is near.

An internal struggle confronts Wolverine and Jean Grey in this pen-ultimate chapter. Condon presents one last hurdle for Logan to jump before the end arrives . The art team gives readers that traditional Wolverine look with the action scenes. There’s no turning back from what’s coming next!
