STORY OVERVIEW:

After running off the Decepticons, Elita-1 calls out Optimus Prime. She questions his decision to help the people of Earth instead of fighting alongside her back on Cybertron. Optimus Prime tells her that there is an importance to helping the people of Earth and fighting the Decepticons here. She disagrees and tells him if he doesn’t want to give her the leadership, she will take it from him. As she attacks Optimus Prime, she tries to rip the Matrix of Leadership out of him. Finally, he gets her to stop and lets her know that the only way to become the leader is if the Matrix of Leadership chooses you. He is willing to let the Matrix make its choice for the honor of the Autobots. Who will the Matrix choose and what will this mean for the Autobots going forward?

WRITING:

The moment that we have been waiting for has arrived in a big way. Robert Kirkman has been building up the tension between Elita-1 & Optimus Prime over the past issues, and he doesn’t let us down with the standoff between them. The tension builds to a boiling point before the actual fight begins, which gets the reader on the edge of their seat. However, more importantly, than the actual fight is the drama and tension that is being created with the rest of the Autobots. Kirkman shows the reader that the split in the ranks of the Autobots is going to lead to even more problems going forward. The bold decision that Kirkman makes in who wins this battle will shake the Energon Universe to its core.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue perfectly complements the story’s intensity. Dan Mora skillfully captures the action, making the fight scene feel epic and immersive. The detailed depiction of the struggle for control is impressive, and Mora’s character designs offer readers an up-close view of this monumental showdown. Enhancing the impact, Mike Spicer uses a striking color palette that makes the fight sequences more intense and visually engaging. This art team excels at their craft, proving why Transformers remains one of the most visually appealing titles available.

Final Thoughts:

Transformers #30 brings the power struggle to a conclusive end, well also setting the tone for what’s to come next in the series and the Energon Universe as a whole. The action, although great, pales in comparison to the drama and the fallout that we will witness in issues to come. This is one of the most important issues of Transformers in this series run. This book is my Pick of the Week and should be on everyone’s list of books to grab at the LCS this week.

FINAL GRADE: 9.6/10
