*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

As Jim Ross has stated in the past, “Business has just picked up!”. Liefeld wastes no time elevating the stakes. ‘Stone’s narration of events is chilling as the Keep’s attack is broken down. Eliminating Thor in mere moments sends a clear message. With twenty-two months under reign, the picture is bleak. This carries through to Badrock’s evasive moves on Earth. The writing shows his unrelenting will to fight back. This becomes evident as some action rolls out. Once Shaft emerges, the issue starts speeding into a steady direction.

Readers watch as more characters come into focus. Liefeld gives a good, brief intro for each one for new readers to get a quick understanding. It’s appreciated as events move to Arcadia. The hidden oasis unlocks more secrets as survivors prepare for what’s next. Dialogue keeps hope with a pulse as touch decisions are made. This is never more clear than with Maximage, Tyrex and Loki. Readers watch as the conversation hits with much shifting around it. That said, the final page exemplifies how high the cost of freedom is. This feels like the calm before the storm and what a hurricane to expect next issue!

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!

There is no question with the art displaying Earth’s fall from grace. Stone’s two page spread shows the aftermath of the Keep’s initial attack. This moves into another great two page spread. Badrock’s evasion drives home the effects of twenty two month reign. His decree of anger shines on a solo page. Readers get a solid injection of action before another vested member joins the party.

Shaft jump in with a fantastic two page spread. This gets upstaged by the full page of Thor’s fallen body. Another great series of two page spreads transitions events form Earth to Arcadia. Each key player gets their own solo page, which adds more gravity to their presences. A superb two-page image unveils the negotiations for help against the Keep. Panels carry a deep tension knowing what’s involved. Liefeld drops one more full shot on readers before departing. Fans will be buzzing about this (and the issue’s art) until next round.

FINAL GRADE: 8.4

Earth may have fallen, but Youngblood still has some fight left in this latest chapter. Liefeld showcases the aftermath of the Keep’s attack with a heavy impact. This issue leans into the planning of the attack rather on full throttle action. The art shines as always in making this feel like a major event. Pieces are put in place for a larger blowout to be had later. Prep for it now!
