*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Slott catches up on a few plots before leading into the main conflict at hand. El Caldero has been off the radar for a little bit in this series. In wake of Superman’s sacrifice in K.O., President Castilho is celebrating his memory. The writing shows his arrogance in harvesting all the lost Kyrptonite. There’s anew wrinkle added into the financial section of his nation that could spell grave consequences down the road for the Kents. For right now, there’s a smaller issue to deal with.

The meeting of past and future Jon leads into many familiar tropes. Readers watch as the young child has a meltdown with all the Smallville residents swarming him. It leads into a more chaotic escape while trying to balance everything out. Their journey takes them to Metropolis where events really pick up steam. The addition of the side plot with Bibbo and his new “friend” provide solid comic relief. It offsets the emotional reactions of Lois Lane and Damian Wayne when seeing the youngest Kent back. The writing allows just enough give before snapping back into the practicality of the situation. The final page leaves a very curious take as it bows out. Suffice to say, there’s a lot more tread on this story’s tires to go.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!

Meyer & Peratelli open with the celebration unfolding in El Caldero. Castilho’s dark motives hide behind his cheerful public persona. This steers into a half panel shot of his latest line of soldiers. Readers see this polished vision before taking a darker turn with a lab experimentation. It results in a new character breaking fee via half panel. The scene plays as a fu break before goign back to Smallville with many unanswered questions.

The visuals of Tomorrrow and Young Jon show the boys trying to process what happened. Panel displays hit the larger moments in stride as the crowd hovers around Kent. It leads into a wild outburst expected from a child. The scenes end on a very steady note before leaving for Metropolis. Once here, the two page spread welcomes all to the world of Bibbo and his new friend. Jon’s re-introduction gets a great two page spread of its’ own. Damian’s reaction is telling as he sees his best friend back as he knew him. This moves towards a somewhat happy ending with Tomorrow Man discussing futures with Lois. The final page teases more questions as Batman and Robin have the last words. A great visual ride form start to finish.

FINAL GRADE: 8.2

Two Jon Kents, One Major Problem. Slott’s script leans heavily into the family bond as the situation unfolds. Meyer & Peratelli nail the key aspects for this journey with the art. Buckle in for a ride that can go into a million different directions.
