Sakaar is on the verge of a total collapse!

Korven Blackjaw has been on the attack since his bride was murdered. He has declared himself the planet’s new king. One person stands in his way of achieving all this. Jennifer Walters was asked by her cousin, The Hulk, to watch over the planet in his absence. This has led to a power struggle and political maneuvering.

The latest casualty is Korven’s rival, Quade. This has lit the match on a possible planet imploding in front of her eyes!

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Phillips opens with the direct betrayal of Juno and her assassination of Quade. The mood is flooded with dark reasoning and unrelenting anger. This leads to a quick brawl and Korvan looks on. The chaos is more complicated when the Thousand Eyes return! Readers watch as they offer a unique proposition to Walters to end her conflict. It is met with some humor and pause before transitioning to what’s next.

The writing takes hold of Walters slight paranoia to provide some answers to her troubles. Readers finally get a long awaited reveal, which causes some friction on plans. It also complicated matters more when a choice is given. The dialogue is brief but to the point. Walters has her own plans and nothing changes that. Best laid plans fall apart when she comes under another attack. Phillips stacks the deck for this showdown. There’s great action that subdues the conflict for the moment. It leads to a more surprising ending. Events are thrown in flux based off the final page. With one chapter left, its’ anyone’s guess how this wraps

Kuder & Oback return for art duties this go-around. The reactions to Quade’s death range from remorseful to gleeful. It paints the picture of the planet’s corruption. The fast fight following is upstaged by a full page entrance. Readers watch as The Thousand Eyes return with a bit of mystery before jet-setting to another segment. Even with a brief interlude, the story remains locked in on Walter’s new “ally” in this fight.

The reveal fans have been waiting on doesn’t disappoint. A strong half-panel catches all up to speed. Jen’s mannerisms reflect the curiosity of how this will all work out. There’s little time to process as another fight looms. This is where the art hits its’ stride. A full image of Jen soaring leads to a fantastic two-page spread. In its’ wake is another defining full image. This puts events on the path to close. The final moments put a question in the air that is now unavoidable. A very good visual ride awaits here.

FINAL GRADE: 8.3

The fight to keep Sakaar in one piece is met with more reveals heading into its’ finish. Phillips throws a few shots into the plot for an intriguing chapter. The art team deliver on key moments to push events forward. Judging by the last page and all bets are off where this story now leads.
