Writing:

Brombal presents an interesting conflict with this latest challenge. The pull on Yara is undeniable as she tries weathering the storm. Commodore Murphy’s scheming comes across as more unstable than cunning. It reflects a rich child with no regard for those around him. How Eva’s origin will factor in remains to be seen, but at least she’s not bullied here. In fact, this is probably the best both she and Static have been writing since they started with this team.

One the main challenge is presented, both play key parts in the attempt to thwart it. The dialogue between members vary as the attack commences. There is much more concern shown than expected. It allows Eva and Static those heroic moments with an emerging leader taking hold: Batgirl (Stephanie Brown). Readers watcha s their efforts fall short until other factors play in. This builds to a solid resolution point where other members get some needed page time. The fallout steers events into a surprising direction as Yara’s involvement becomes more problematic than expected. Overall, a solid script.

art & lettering:

Basri & Lucas present Yara’s troubles with great looks. The opening sequence shows the building toll it is taking on her until she breaks. The amazons argument with Murphy is very heated. This leads to a unique change of pace as Murphy triggers an attack. Once this occurs, a full shot shows the threat on the prowl. This spins more frantic looks as the teaam tries regrouping to fight back.

Readers watch as the action starts slow but gets more characters involved. Going to shorter panels gives the pace a heightened look going into the fight. Eva’s attempt is met with a shocking full look. This spins into more nightmares for Yara to deal with. Panels press onward as Murphy never stops causing mayhem. This builds up to a 4-way shot of the team taking a unified shot. It results in a steady fallout before the final page hits. Once here, a strong near full shot opens up more questions as Yara searches for answers.

FINAL GRADE: 8.5

The Titans find themselves in over their head as Commodore Murphy manipulates matters in his favor. Brombal lets Eva and Static get some much needed time to impress. The art team lets loose on great action and mounting drama. After a more confusing start, it looks like this team is finally starting to come together.
