Ra's al Ghul has unleashed the Harbingers of the Apocalypse!

The Demon’s Head is convinced that 90% of the Earth’s population must be eliminated. This doesn’t sit well with the world’s finest.

Such extreme measures pushes one to think of crossing a line they both vowed never to!

BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD’S FINEST #56 by Mark Waid, Adrián Gutiérrez. Vicente Cifuentes, Luis Guerrero & Steve Wands (DC COMICS) continues “Extinction Event”

Let’s see how the story deveolps.

BATMAN/SUPERMAN: WORLD’S FINEST #55 by Mark Waid, Adrián Gutiérrez, Vicente Cifuentes, Luis Guerrero & Steve Wands (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Waid lets Al Ghul tear loose in his own devises for this chapter. The exchange with Poison Ivy conveys his over-confidence as he keeps apply pressure to the world. His actions have forced Superman to confront Tokamak in the midst of a nuclear power plant explosion. The moments never ease up as they push Supes to his breaking point.

The same can be said for Batman. With Robin infected by a newfound plague, Bat walks a fine line in who he contacts for help. Bringing in this Flash rouge allows readers to connect on the severity of Grayson’s condition. Pacing speeds through many of the side plots (including Talia confronting Poison Ivy). It never falters on delivering a huge gain. This leads into a chilling confrontation between Supes and Al Ghul. The writing hits the mark as Superman is pushed into contemplating crossing a line. This forces Batman to go into an unlikely role in the final pages. Seeing who’s joining the fight can only mean more problems as Ra prepares for victory.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

Gutiérrez & the art team carry a huge energetic look to this story. The encounter with Ivy and Al Ghul oozes with its uncertainty. This leads Superman barreling into action. A bold half panel sees Big Blue tackle Tokamak. This spins into a very intense encounter with Batman and said Flash rogue. The art mirrors Batman’s direct approach to the letter. There’s no shortage of anger boiling on these scenes.

Panels go large when Superman is fighting. It gives a greater look as events begin to crack at the foundation. A pair of half panels are perfect examples of this. This style locks in for Talia as she confronts Poison Ivy. Readers watch as the meeting between Al Ghul and Superman could explode at any moment. It’s a great example of human chess as Al Ghul manipulates the room. This leads into Batman’s major play. As previously stated, lines are crossed. The final page shwos how far Bats is willing to go with a bold full image. Brace for this one.

FINAL GRADE: 8.8

Ra’s Al Ghul keeps the world on the edge of destruction while the Finest scramble to defend! Waid orchestrates events to a magnificant level with the writing. Gutiérrez & the team go for incredible swings with the art. An impressive read from start to close.
