*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Axelrod and Maines put the headlining pair in an almost perfect scenario. Living amongst the Amazons, they are care free and enjoying the life. Their banter is fun and light-hearted. This changes when a mysterious figure crashes onto the shores. After Dreamer makes the save, readers see a familiar yet different setting unfold. The moment loans itself to separate the pair into their own paths, One teases love and companionship. The other hints at more secrets to be unlocked.

Once they reunite, the pair discovers that something is completely wrong. Their conversations show the worry growing in both. Events take a change of pace as the adventure moves to Gotham City. Readers see everyone re-envisioned as the World’s Finest. It leads to a more zanier twist as Dreamer is assessing what is going on. More guests start crashing the case. The mysterious figure starts tipping his hand to the truth. Events escalate into the final act. Once here, a dire future exists. The reveal of the truth is crushing as there’s no slowing down the mastermind of what is all unfolding now.

MORE FROM DC NEXT LEVEL!

Three art teams take lead on the main story. Scott begins events with a full image of the heroes enjoying the Amazonian life. The panels lock in on their happiness until it is cut short. A stranger’s appearance comes off deceptive. His mannerisms tease a charm. This stuns Dreamer enough to investigate. It escalates as the man reveals his intentions to unlock more knowledge. The more personal times are upset by the nagging sense of danger. A close-up of Dreamer proves those points to be right.

Bone takes lead on the “Animated” style of Gotham. Readers see a fun homage to Batman and Superman with Galaxy and Dreamer’s new costumes. This grows further as the man attempts his best Selina Kyle. Their panels have a cartoonish vibe to the plot. A half panel welcomes in the growing guest star list as the action heats up. Another half panel shows Galaxy let loose with grave consequences. This leads to the final portion of the story with a stark reality.

Brandt & Stein finishes off the story with two major pages. The fist shows the JLA assessing what was going on. This doesn’t compare to the closing page. A full image shows the real truth of the matter with more intrigue behind in. Greg Rucka and Clare Roe add in a complimentary story of Kate Kane in Greece. Her night out results in meeting Alya. The conversation flirts with danger as Kate keeps her guard up. Panels show how fast the night takes hold. It leads into a new Batwoman adventure with an assailant. This teases a shocking turn of events leading into Kate’s excelent ongoing series.

FINAL GRADE: 8.4

Galaxy and Dreamer’s world warps into a few new aspects while someone is pulling the strings. Axelrod and Maines unveil many different looks at the heroes. The art presents each challenge with its own style and flair. A sound beginning for what will be an ever-winding journey.
