STORY OVERVIEW:
As Mei and the rest of the mutant kids try and stay alive. Donald Pierce reveals that the reason he chose this mountain is because there is an abundance of Uru, a metal that has mystical properties. It’s highly receptive to enchantments and Pierce is using it to make him stronger than ever. Just as it looks like the mutants are doomed, Cyclops shows up to try and save the day. But can Cyclops defeat this new more powerful version of Pierce by himself?
WRITING:
This final issue is a tour de force of emotions and action. Alex Paknadel ends this series with the action and emotions that he’s given us this entire series. The rough and tough way he portrays Cyclops, while still keeping his heart of gold, is a perfect combination of all the ways the character has been written. This blended combination leads to heavy emotional scenes brought on by his duty to protect. But also allows him to cross the line and shed the choir boy image that the character is usually saddled with. Paknadel balances these sides of the character perfectly which creates an amazing synergy within the story. The issue and series end with a real beautiful and heartfelt moment, that is sure to leave readers misty eyed.
ARTWORK:
Rogê Antônio’s artwork captures the story’s challenges and emotional weight with clarity and precision. His action scenes are dynamic and easy to follow, giving each moment impact. He especially shines in the dramatic sequences, where expressive visuals add depth and feeling to the characters. Fer Sifuentes-Sujo’s color palette strengthens the mood and elevates the issue’s overall visual quality. This art team has really delivered this entire run, and this final issue showcases all that we’ve come to love about the artwork in this series.

Final Thoughts:
Cyclops #5 is a fantastic and emotional ending to this wonderful series. The action and fight scenes are tremendous and keep readers chomping at the bit. But the drama and emotional side of the story is the real MVP in this finale. Those emotions fill the reader with joy at the end of the issue and are truly fulfilling. The only downside of this issue is that the series and story are over. For those of us who have been reading this series as it played out, you will be very happy with this ending. For those who haven’t read this series, make sure when November rolls around you pick up the Trade at your Local Comic Shop.
