Lemire delivers a showdown with a curious motive driving the drama. Stein’s set-up to distract his creation leads into a unique landing spot. The writing teases a new world with Ronnie thriving in a forgotten era. It carries a classic feel as Ronnie welcomes in a time of brief happiness. As the super-heroics kick in, readers watch as Ronnie starts noticing something is off. The instincts prove correct as the deception slowly becomes unglued. His reaction sends the story into an uneasy spot which comes with grave stakes.
Once reality sinks in, Lemire finally lets Ronnie Raymond loose. The rage in his words is unescapable. Raymond’s conversation with Stein is boiling over with years of trauma connected to each word. Gattoni’s lettering drives this anger home to readers. It leads to an uncomfortable conclusion to where the conflict now leads. The choice has a monster impact but dire aftermath. It leaves readers with a cold glance at the stakes involved with this amount of power. The parting talk handles its’ gravity before leaving a clue to a future uncertain. A solid finish to an ever-evolving tale.

De Latorre & Maiolo open with Stein’s devious talk with Firestorm. The panels mirror the mounting tension. Firehawk’s reaction encompasses the readers as events play out. This moves into a loud half panel shot. The result goes into the grainy coloring scheme of classic comics. Maiolo has done a tremendous job with this look all series. The visuals complements De Latorre’s easy line visuals. Once the moment is caught as a lie, events all change from here.
Readers watch as a bold full page blends both timelines. The fallout lights an explosive meet-up with much venom behind it. Ronnie’s emotions are not held in check during this sequence. It never maintains a level of trust as the main event starts to take place. The art team delivers on some fast action to lead into a much more impactful time. A stunning two page spread ends events on a startling point. Panels camouflage a sense of dread growing by the minute. The epilogue pages give proper closure to the encounter, with the final page raising some eyebrows. How this ultimately plays out will be something to watch.
FINAL GRADE: 8.6
The fate of Firestorm is revealed in a remarkable and emotional way. Lemire vents the anger with Gattoni structuring its’ impact. De Latorre & Maiolo present a perplexing event unfolding before readers eyes’. Nothing will ever be the same again for the Nuclear Man!
