Hello there! Padawan J here, the resident Star Wars expert from the ODPH! This week I'm going to be reviewing the 5th issue of Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures from Dark Horse Comics!
After some time away from The High Republic era of Star Wars we are BACK! Set 300+ years before the events of The Phantom Menace it’s a tumultuous time for the Republic. A team of pathfinders exploring the furthest reaches of the galaxy is met with something they can’t explain. So just how are they going to escape it? Let’s jump into it!

The Story
George Mann continues to do such an incredible job with the story in this series. It really reminds me of some of the stories I remember reading during the time of the prequels between the comics & novels.
The story takes a little bit of a different turn from what you might be used to from the last couple of issues, but it’s the mystery and intrigue that really keep you reading from start to finish. It feels both like a usual Star Wars story and unlike one with how the story ends up playing out. You don’t get too many stories like this one that keep up the mystery and intrigue in Star Wars all that often.
Mann’s storytelling also works really well for the way the issue ends as it leaves you with an incredible ending that has me wishing issue #6 was out now. It’s going to be interesting to see how things wrap up, because this is after all just a 6 issue series. With George Mann at the helm of the story though, I have complete faith that the ending is going to be incredible.
The Artwork
Vincenzo Riccardi is in charge of the artwork for the issue and it is really impressive. It’s easily the most visually stunning issue of a Star Wars comic I’ve ever seen. The artwork is so visually different from any other Star Wars comic on the stands right now that I really think it lends a unique look to the issue. I really liked how crazy the art got the more intense the story got.
Overall Grade: 7/10
George Mann & the entire creative team continue the tremendous story with another fantastic issue. The story is one that any Star Wars fan can jump into and read, no matter how big a fan you are. Mann’s spectacular storytelling & the incredible artwork really make this an issue you should check out!
