Lemire continues to shred apart the perception of Martin Stein in this latest chapter. After a brief flashback between Firestorm and Firehawk, Lorraine Reilly’s journey has now led her to Martin Stein’s door. Their conversation is anything but welcomed. The writing shows how cold Stein was to any sort of caring when it came to his obsession of Firestorm. It is a disturbing look at how far he and other scientists went with human experiments.
These revelations are enough to push Reilly over the edge. Readers watch as she opens up one more Pandora’s box. This is met with Stein’s trembling tone as his time of atonement looks to have arrived. It is arguably the strongest portion of the chapter. Her rage is contained long enough to hear a possible solution to the current issue. This moves events to a puzzling finish. The final page raises some eyebrows as the endgame remains unclear A solid cliffhanger until next time.

De Latorre & Maiolo delve into the flashbacks with Firehawk to open the show. After a solid first page, a two page splash brings forth a happier moment between the pair. The panels show the couple caught up in the moment before everything goes back to the present. Once here, the tone shifts into a dire situation. Stein’s stone reactions indicaate his acceptance of his actions.
Readers get a unique two-page spread showing other heroes involved in the same fate as Firestorm. Reilly’s emotions start becoming more aggressive as Stein tries spinning his story. A near full page shot shows the final straw being broken. This knocks down larger dominos in revealing the truth. Another throwback two page spread shows Stein’s manipulations in bloom. Once events calm, the art shifts events to its closing destination. The final full page makes a loud statement with wonder behind it. The art never tips off too much of what is happening here. It hits the key points needed to sell the story.
FINAL GRADE: 9.2
Firehawk gets more than bargained for when she finds Dr. Martin Stein in this tense issue. Lemire unveils more of Stein’s devious ways with the script. De Latorre & Maiolo unload all the rage building inside Firehawk to great success. Readers have never had a Firestorm story quite like this one!
