STORY OVERVIEW:
Elita Prime has led the Transformers back to Cybertron to protect their home Planet from the Decepticons. The problem is the Space Bridge inserted them directly into Decepticon territory. As the Transformers try to regroup and start their trek home, they are welcomed by a group of Decepticons led by Shockwave. Sideswipe, Jetfire, and Bulkhead lead the initial attack against the Decepticon’s, but they are quickly overwhelmed. With the Transformers taking on some damage Elita Prime must rise to the occasion and try to save the day. Unfortunately for the Decepticons she enters the battle wielding the Ghost of the Star Saber!
WRITING:
The return to Cybertron has been what the series has been building towards for the past few issues, especially after Elita was named the new Prime. Robert Kirkman pays off this build in a big way. Putting the Transformers behind enemy lines raised the stakes in the story and built anticipation for what’s coming next. Kirkman shows us the Transformers in peril before unleashing Elita’s new weapon and revealing how badass it really is. The action more than delivers in this issue and will please every fan of the series.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this issue definitely gives an old school Transformers feel. Jason Howard succeeds in bringing a certain level of nostalgia to the artwork. It really brings the reader back to the 1980’s in a lot of ways. Although I dig the art style, it did take me a minute to really lock in due to it being a little different than what we’ve been accustomed to in this series. That isn’t a major negative as I acclimated to the visuals quickly, but it was still something of note. Mike Spicer nailed the color choices and matched the energy and vibe of the artwork perfectly.

Final Thoughts:
Transformers #32 takes a step back from the deep routed drama that has played out in the last couple of issues and returned to a more action focused issue. The star of this issue is the action sequences and how they set up what’s to come. This series does a fantastic job of making the story flow and taking readers on different journeys that all come together and make sense. Transformers should be on everyone’s Pull Lists and if it’s not on yours, grab a copy of this issue and give it a shot.
FINAL GRADE: 9/10
