THE WHISPER WAR #2 by Marc Guggenheim, Sedat Oezgen, Carlos Cabrera & Dave Sharpe (Comixology Originals) continues its’ mystery inside The Shattered Realm.

Let’s take a deeper dive into this case.

THE WHISPER WAR #2 by Marc Guggenheim, Sedat Oezgen, Carlos Cabrera & Dave Sharpe (Comixology Originals)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Guggenheim plants the seed of mistrust early in this chapter. Jindari’s acceptance of the victim’s identity is met with much natural pushback. The dialogue with Dessin teases some hope but echoes the unpredictability of this discovery. Readers watch as their next moves put them on an unlikely course. The trip to see Sister Maglin hints at more danger before unveiling more secrets. Readers watch as a deal needs to be bartered before any progress is made. Clearly, this is easier said than done.

Their trip to the Dregs is anything but easy. Imprimata’s worst section is filled with danger at every turn. The writing builds this feel up quickly to add to the current dilemma. Once they arrive at their targeted individual, events become grounded quickly. Luthex Durrand has a reputation most would want to avoid. Jindari’s over-confidence spirals into a fractured deal in its’ own right. The result is a fitting but predictable finish. That’s the only thing readers may see coming. The finish turns everything upside down once again. It’s not deja vu. The ending adds more cracks in the loose foundation Jindari is standing on. How long before it gives makes this story a can’t miss one. Excellent follow-up chapter.

Oezgen & Cabrera peel back the tough facade of Jindari as he tries understanding his discovery. The reactions he conveys to Dessin sparks a sense of mild paranoia. This moves the pair to start complying their next move. Panels start eluding to more unlikely scenarios in the mystery at hand. It proves to upset the bond forming between the pair before their next step. This spins into a strong splash image of the dangerous world of the Algo. The home location of Sister Maglin carries a cold aura as they begin to press for information. Her reactions seem unphased as the request are made. Where events lead after are the complete opposite.

The Dregs provide its’ own frantic elements. Readers watch as the pair fight their way to Luthex. Panels move swiftly as the numbers are taken out. The image of Luthex sitting on his throne sets the moment as they attempt to secure him. His reactions change from defiant to losing almost instantly. The moment spins into some fats action before moving into closing. Once at this stage, the art throws a major curve into play. Coloring on the final page elevates the huge reveal. It’s another stand-out piece of an ever-changing puzzle.

FINAL GRADE: 9.4

Axel Jindari’s world is dealt another massive blow as the Shattered Realms mystery spins further out of grasp. Guggenheim hits readers with a jaw-dropping finish after a strong lead-in. Oezgen & Cabrera never let up on the weight of the reveals with the art. If you though last issue had a wild finish, brace for impact with what ends events here! Incredible work!
