Danny Landau has his back up against the wall!

One moment, He and his girlfriend Gina Rabinowitz are enjoying some baseball in the Bronx. The next, they somehow wound up in the land of King Arthur.

Danny’s search to get back his girl and home hit a stumbling block. Their relationship status is now very “complicated” as The King and Gina have started a relationship after being separated for so long. This has resulted in a tourney of skills he cannot win. Matters are made worse with Merlyn fixing the games. The latest twist is bringing in Boston baseball great Fred Willions.

Now it’s time for Danny to channel his inner Derek Jeter to bring home the ultimate championship.

MEDIEVAL #5 by Neil Kleid & Alex Cormack (Comixology Originals) delivers its’ series finale.

Let’s take a closer look how this all ends for Danny and Gina.

MEDIEVAL #5 by Neil Kleid & Alex Cormack (Comixology Originals)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Kleid pushes Danny to his breaking point with the opening portion. The injection of Willions leads to a volatile outburst. His dialogue is justifying the rage of Merlyn’s scheming. Readers watch as the “contest” turns fast into a one-sided affair. One character this doesn’t escape from is Gina. Her response is one of conflicted emotions. This helps move the story the long awaited resolution of affairs. Does this side in Danny’s favor? Yes and No.

The writing exposes the truth of Gina’s true feelings. It is met with an understanding to fuel what happens next. Throughout this experience, Danny appeared to be the only one unchanged. That notion is tossed when he has a chance to extract some rage. Kleid moves Danny into the side of heroes when his actions unveil the dark truths outside the kingdom walls. Its’ resolution concludes the combat but not the drama. Readers watch as one more loophole is handled before bowing out. Danny and Gina’s time comes to a definitive closure point. This spins into a more stable ending and possible future for a Bronx legend waiting for his moment to swing for the fences.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!

Cormack starts with a couple of images of the Boston legend then and now. Danny’s exploding rage can’t be ignored on each panel. Readers can sense his chances of winning slipping with each panel. This carries over into their actual competition. Only Gina’s worried reactions lead to some much needed interference of Merlyn’s schemes. This pushes Arthur into some enlightenment which his grin can’t deny. The same can not be said for Danny.

His brutal dealing of the Minstrel is all blood and action. Fans can sense the release of the building anger in these moments. Cormack doesn’t hold much back in this sequence. It spills over to a heated confrontation with who’s been pulling all the strings. The pages turn into a fast conclusion with this portion of story. From here, the pace slows down enough to allow Danny and Gina their time to handle their drama once and for all. The panels showcase an acceptance of changed people. This also allows Danny a happier moment, one he hasn’t had in quite some time. The closing panel is a fine send-off to this saga with much to ponder for the future.

FINAL GRADE: 8.6

With two strikes against him, Danny Landau leaves it all on the field as this fun story plays its’ last inning. Kleid’s writing presents the honest truth for both Danny and Gina to accept in this new stat quo. Cormack’s art showcases Danny’s never-say-die attitude to the very end. A fitting end to a story deceptive in its true nature. Make sure to check this out!
