Van Poelgeest presents a very exciting and familiar theme for this opening round. Dr. Caulder’s dreams tease a greater mystery at hand. Knowing the character well, this is par for the course. Once the Patrol comes into focus, their current situation is a quirky one. Attempting to find a lost cat spins into something way more complex. the writing also does a quick recap of each character’s beginnings before going into an odd direction concerning the case.
Readers watch as the team thinks outside the box to remedy their latest issue. Its’ fallout allows Negative Man to take a spotlight. Arguably the most complicated hero of the team, the writing allows a moment of peace and opening himself up. It is a far cry from what danger is unfolding. The moment is vintage Doom Patrol. There’s plenty of great one-liners mixed in with chaotic moves. It comes to a surprising finish setting up more for later. The same can be said for the actual close Mysteries are abound in a captivating opener.

Henrichon teases readers with the look at Caulder to pen. The panels are larger to lock in on his train of thinking as the action happens. It leads to a curious page image before transferring to the reminder of the team. The full page image hints at something before completely pulling a 180. It allows the situation to be presented at a larger weight than it carries. The intro pages are a solid touch concerning the odd factors bringing this team together.
Robotman’s structure seems larger than usual renderings His panel space takes up much which makes his presence stand out. Once the case is settled, the art zeroes in on the reaction to their job. The woman who hired them has varying expressions which plays off Negative Man’s calm persona. This leads to a panel of peace when bandages are taken off. the moment hits while a wild full page image speaks entirely different. The action gets crazy as the team goes to work with more full shots and huge moments. It results in two curious ending panels. Par for the course with this group

Let’s get weird! A simple cat rescue is far from easy with many new doors opening for the quirky team. Van Poelgeest stages a complex look at the team via its’ familiar charm. Henrichon presents some wild imagery with the art. This is everything you could want reading Doom Patrol!
