Higgins presents this group with some solid angst behind them. The “chip on shoulder” ethic plays well when pairing with their new mentor. Red Hood’s conversation with Cole’s parents is frank but stages the involvement well. This leads into the teams introduction. Readers get a solid welcome page breaking down key facts of each character. It moves to some friction in what their plans are. Fate had something in mind as thieves walk into the wrong arcade in this moment.
The writing showcases a small glimpse of what everyone can do. Choi’s presence is a scene steal as it transitions the conflict to higher ground. The move expands on some abilities until it hits a roadblock. Red Hood’s arrival squashes any fight while setting up the group’s unlikely meeting. Banter is quick and puts Todd in an uncomfortable light. This transcends into the aftermath. Readers see a few guest stars weigh in on what’s happening. This catapults events into the closing stages. With more information at hand, the talk with Red Hood hits harder as the case is made to work together. It leaves a very devilish look at the future while crafting a smile on the way out.

Di Nicuolo & Costa open with a steady look at the diner business meeting between Cole’s parents and Todd. Their reactions clearly show how out of place they are for this. Todd’s cold reactions never waiver as he processes the deal. A solid full shot shows how the Team is blowing off some steam, while introducing themselves to readers. Their reactions vary until the dangers come to their doorstep.
An electric two page spread kicks off the action. Panels tease what the group can do while the fight spirals forward. Choi’s involvement is a smaller panel but packs a larger punch. This moves events to a thrilling sequence on the rooftops. A solid half page image welcomes Red Hood to the fight. The interactions lead to more involvement form notables form the DCU. Half panels bring them into the mix as the Teen’s future remains up in the air. This circles back to the search for Cole to begin the close. Red Hood’s interrogation gets an excellent half panel. This moves into the close with Fairplay giving a great speech via near full page. The imagery sets the tone for the shocking final page. No one in the DCU is ready for that sight to get rolling!

A missing boy in Seattle becomes an unlikely catalyst for some outsider to take over in an impressive debut. Higgins brings out a balance of humor and drama to the opening round. Di Nicuolo & Costa craft an energetic look at this next generation team. Buckle in for one of the wildest pairings in recent memory!
