*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
The writing adds in a little mischief into play while keeping readers guessing of Kara and Kal’s fate. Opening with the Lantern’s plans for the pair sparks more paranoia into the last Krptonian. Readers watch as her instincts lead her into making a fast choice. It results in heading back into the wide open universe. This time is different as she is fueled by her new Lantern powers. That doesn’t mean the road gets any less complex.
Where this story detours is with the addition of Ms. Mxyzptlk. Their encounter forces Kara into looking into her own coping of Krypton’s loss. Readers watch as her construction of a “Blue City” hides her pain but only for a fleeting time. It hits on an emotional mark while grounding the story at the same time. Even with her powers, Kara can’t find peace with the past. This leads into a wild finish where the stat quo changes yet again. It leaves readers with more questions as Kara’s future balances between light and dark.
READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!
Reis never lets up on the pressure of Kara’s mission, even in ssafe quarters. The interrogation by the Lanterns shows her defiance in breaking. This only is raised more when she overhears certain other plans. A close-up of her eye tells much as plans must detour into a new path. Another full page image shows the result of Kara’s move. It leads into uncharted territory as Kara sets up a new home….literally.
Readers watch as Kara’s moves garner someone else attention. Ms. Mxyzptlk comes off as a true animated character in comparison to the more realistic style of the other art. Their encounter leads to more deeper thoughts as Kara relives her past. How reis flip-flops the color style with Black and White mixed with Blue for flashbacks is an eye catcher. There is more contrast as a darker vision is presented in page before coming full circle. This steers events to a more colorful finish. The pages pop as Kara’s journey has let to a very unexpected setting. A haunting final panel leaves a new door open with some possibilities following suit.
FINAL GRADE: 8.4
Kara’s encounter with a perplexing rogue challenges her mission with much uncertainty. Parker & Sheridan orchestrate a look back before heading into the unknown. Reis crafts quite the visual experience with a wide color scheme. A vision of Kara Zor-El’s legacy that captivates at every turn.
