SUPERGIRL : SURVIVE #2 by Ethan S. Parker, Griffin Sheridan,Rod Reis & Lucas Gattoni (DC Comics)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

The writing gives this chapter more semblance to what an Elseworlds tale is all about. Kara’s constant running leads her into the direct path of a group of Bounty Hunters. Readers see the emergence of the Lobo Gang take over events. Their devilish hustle makes Kara an easy target to capture. Once they acquire their bounty, the drama escalates quickly with much of the Main Man’s influence.

Once the pair arrives at Lobo’s ranch, the dialogue proves snarky and cold as Lobo discusses their ill-timed fate. Readers watch as Kara’s conflictions start bubbling up more and more. Their face-off carries a sense of urgency until its’ interrupted by another invested party. Readers watch as the Green Lantern Corps jump into the mix with valor. This provides a much needed spark into the fight at hand. It also serves up the dangerous course of action involved with helping Kara. The combat ends on a shocking note before moving to the close. Once here, the writing throws one more curve ball into play, which is a fitting twist to the entertaining chapter.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW!

Reis displays Kara’s good intentions with a touch of sorrow behind them. The opening page closes in on the wear on her eyes as she keeps going forward. This leads into the transport station with much anxiousness. It carries a similar feel from the moments on the alien planet. The full shot of the creature attacking sparks concern. It gives way to the GLC making a regal debut via half panel. The moment serves as a solid break point before the station takes back over. Another half page reveal shales up events before moving into the Main Man’s court.

The mood is dark humor and chilling as the Lobo Gang discuss what’s next. Kara’s attempts to fight back are noble but ultimately outclassed. The art locks in on her reactions and never lets them out of range. This becomes more heightened with the face-off with Lobo. Panels show Kara’s concern as reality is setting in. This is quickly swayed by some much needed help. A strong full page image starts the wild action. This continues to advance until some shocking panels occur, resulting in the fights end. In its wake stands a very big shock. The closing full shot changes everything as changes yet again for the young Kryptonian.

FINAL GRADE: 8.8

Kara Zor-El’s run-in with the Lobo Gang pays a heavy price in a thrilling chapter.. Parker & Sheridan scramble the status quo with an excellent script. Reis brings out impressive images to show the struggles to move forward. A reimaging of the Maiden Of Might’s legacy that needs to be seen.
