*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Tynion lays into the fractured status of Jessica to drive this thrilling chapter. The opening sequence involving Bex and Cecelia is fueled by an unknown fate. Readers watch as the skillful hunter applies pressure for answers. It’s a very different situation than Gary’s. His is more lighter as he sparks conversation with Rainey and the Sheriff The dialogue is inquisitive as the distraction plays out. It leads to an even greater result than anyone expected.

This shifts gears into the long awaited showdown with Jessica and the Order. The writing doesn’t hold back as old wounds reopen. Cecelia’s cold dialogue strikes multiple blows on Jessica. This is the only counter to the physical attack Jessica lays out knowing what is coming next. This leads into a more complicated finish. There are many moving parts as one fate is fully decided. It leave readers in a state of curiosity knowing Erica’s growing frustration is very evident in this moment. This builds up a close months in the making. SIKTC is known for the long play drama and another set-up move just took place here.

Dell’edera and Muerto showcase the ranges of emotions surrounding Erica’s win at The Valmont Mountain House. Cecelia’s interrogation of Bex is direct with shorter panels bringing the pressure to life. Gary’s quiet charm works the room as the ruse takes shape. This allows for a stronger build into the Order’s next step. It gives way to a shocking half panel, throwing everything into a state of flux.

From here, Jessica’s time with Erica teases a more stable path. Cecelia’s injection into their conversation is gifted a half panel. Muerto’s work on Cecelia’s eyes steals scenes as their fight breaks out. Erica and Bex watch in wonder as the two tussle. It leads into more stable talk as the events wind down to the closing stages. Aaron Slaughter’s conversation shows the concern on where events are leading. A full shot says farewell to the most surprising of cases. This is an excellent place to leave off except it’s upstaged by another full page. This one moves events into a more clear path as one character has crashed back into reality.

FINAL GRADE: 8.8

The Valmont Mountain House case concludes on an emotional point with a dangerous future more clear. Tynion IV unlocks buried feeling with a superb script. Dell’edera and Muerto tear into Jessica’s last stand with haunting visuals. Brace for what’s forthcoming in the ever-changing world of Erica Slaughter.
