*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Brombal gives readers what they have been clamoring for, but not without some other drama thrown in. Yara’s nightmares begin events with some curiosity. The addition of Eva in this sequence doesn’t seem to gel as the team itself has yet to find its cohesion. It’s coming across that Eva, for lack of a better term. is being bullied when in conversations. It wouldn’t be so surprising that she becomes a villain at some point. Once this has passed, it’s on to the main event.
Static’s introduction is a fun, but confliction welcome to the team. Jon Kent’s optimism is met with varying success by the fellow teammates. Red Devil’s side time gives some quick humor before moving into another friction building on the team. Nightwing’s “training” of Stephanie Brown becomes heated as the pressures of leading hit some walls. The writing shows Batgirl’s frustrations mounting. This spills into Static’s welcome. Readers see some hijinks ensue before more questions are raised by the elder members. Events come full circle with Yara’s time to take readers away into the next round. Solid set-up but there’s something about this team that just sell them as a unit. Hopefully Static can fix this.

The art begins with an impressive full page look at Yara’s nightmares. It is stunning while teasing more. Once Eva comes into the mix, the panels show their conflicting views boil over. While brief, it still is noteworthy of how Eva still hasn’t won over the team yet. Readers don’t wait long for Static to hit the scene. The panels with Jon Kent mirror the optimism Superman has with adding Virgil to the team.
Red Devil’s side time breaks up events just enough before Batgirl’s training takes over. A strong two page spread spotlights the chaotic training session. It leads into more expressive rage between her and Nightwing. This flows into Static’s introduction to the pair. Nightwing’s worry takes hold as Kent’s trust isn’t comforting about the latest member. Panels reflect the others trying to make Static welcome. His announcement of joining seemed forced in the moment and quickly disperses into the closing stages of the chapter. Readers get more panels of bickering amongst the heroes before the final full page shakes everything up.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
Static provides a shock to the Titans while a new threat looms. Brombal builds up solid tension around Jon Kent’s choice to join their squad. The art team shows that this team still have some issues to work through when it comes to trust. A new member and adventure couldn’t come at a better time!
