*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Pires makes this a journey into two key areas. The first focuses on the current case at hand. Sending Henry across the drifts brings out deep buried emotions as the trail heats up. It’s complimented by some great action to build up to the long awaited face-off. Readers watch as the mood swings quickly once the main event lines up. There’s plenty of drama to set it off. However, the flashback sequences steal the thunder along the way.

Watching Nihlas’ growth in House Blackheart paints themes of jealousy and respect. From their early days, it is clear of how their bond is forged. Once they are older, the writing starts showing breaks in their foundation. It is a strong revelation as a deeper truth is presented. The way Pires maneuvers this information only creates more disillusion of Henry’s back story. Adding this note to the overall picture makes the final pages even greater. Readers have much to be excited with this one.

Casalanguida hits readers with a calm intro of Henry searching for clues. The moment is filled with tension as Henry starts inquiring. This results in a solid two page spread finally pushing him closer to finding the target. The book splits into the two paths for remainder of the issue. In reference to the “drifts”, the panels are cold while Henry reflects on what he has been through. In these moments, the art shines as the inserts of action and surprise balance out the journey. Once at the confrontation, a superb two page image will have readers excited for what’s next.

Along the way, the flashbacks with Nihlas showcase a simpler time in the hunter’s life. Watching the two young men evolve under Cyrus’ teaching brings out a covert moment that’s all too crucial. A half age image welcomes the pair onto their assignment. Henry’s world is rocked by some detailed secrets. This becomes quickly interrupted by Nihlas’ actions. It spirals into a stand off with some serious weight behind it. The fallout shows readers how Henry is coping. A more simple panel concludes this with a return to “normal”. The mood is quickly dashed by the final page. A full page image raises some eyebrows as the latest case just became more complicated.

Readers are gifted an official name and launch month for Pires, Franklin Jonas & Maxi Dall'o spin-of project. To say this issue is packed is an understatement.

FINAL GRADE: 8.8

Into the darkness goes Henry Blackheart. What he finds rattles him to his core. Pires throws a few different looks of Henry at readers with the writing. . Casalanguida & the art team deliver on fantastic art in the ever-winding tale. There is much to be excited about surrounding the creative teams’ storytelling.
