Neron has returned in this time of crisis. Augmenting power of lower-tier villains has opened up more trouble than expected.
It has now prompted Terrific to lead this team straight into Hell itself to confront the Demon. Even the most noble deeds can’t go unpunished.
JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #15 by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Sean Izaakse, Tamra Bonvillain & Ariana Maher challenges Terrific’s team on a far deeper level with this tie-in chapter.
Let’s take a closer look at how events play out now.

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Waid escalates the crisis on Earth to kick off the issue. Seeing Ted Kord navigate traffic leads to a forgotten plot hole finally answered. The return of Air Wave finally gives some relevance to the “Dar Tomorrow” Spin-off special from a few months ago. Wave’s proclamation of events tie back to what is unfolding now. It spins into the confrontation in Oklahoma City. Readers watch as the battle takes a turn in favor of the heroes. The much needed win disappears quickly when Neron plays his cards. His reveal transitions to Terrific’s ill-fated attempt to stop him.
This story has been very interesting as it comes down to the heart of heroes. Readers have watched this misfit group push their way into darkness but have shown cracks in confidence. This theme remains true with Batman Beyond. Showing this vulnerability mirrors the feelings going further into Neron’s world. Terrific’s response is perfect as his confidence is unbreakable. The writing offers up more challenges with other casualties along the way. The closing pages add a new dynamic into play. It matches Terrific’s long game strategy when he converses with Neron. Redaers get a big twist in closing as the best plans don’t see this coming. A solid end point for the pen-ultimate story issue.

The art team locks in on the dangers at hand. Beetle’s reactions to what’s crashing around him leads into a larger payoff with Air Wave’s return. The half panel image shows his optimism beaming. His interactions with Kord are priceless as they plot how to attack next. This spins into a trip to Oklahoma City. It doesn’t take long before the action speeds up. Readers watch as the frantic pace turns the tide ever so slightly. Neron’s half page entrance throws everything off its’ axis. It stops events here while pivoting back to the Terrific mission without fail.
The half page image of the remaining team shows their struggles surviving. Readers lock in on Batman’s worry of handling the pressure. Even in a shivering stance, Terrific is locked and loaded on the mission. Readers witness their troubles get worse as they deal with incredible creatures and loss. It adds more weight to their failing odds. This really becomes clear as Terrific achieves his main goal. A full page image shows his decent into the dark throne room. It is met with an intense meeting of personalities. Their banter hides the closign set-up very well. One more final image throws everything off as the story looks to finish with a tragic ending.
FINAL GRADE: 8.4
Terrific’s tragic walk through Hell finally hits its’ finish line but at what cost? Waid pens a deeper look at he strength of a soul with the writing. The art team bring out the most from each scene, especially when its time for action. It sets up the story finale on solid ground. Where it goes is anyone’s’ guess.
