LOBO #1 (DC COMICS)

In the aftermath of “DC K.O.”, it’s a new beginning in the DCU.

One of the recipients of leading the “Next Level” movement is a character that is truly one of a kind. A destructive force that is the definition of “No F**** Given”. He’s about to impact pop culture via the upcoming “Supergirl” film.

Until then, The Main Man is ready to blaze a new path of debauchery onto the masses in a new series.

LOBO #1 by Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, Jean-François Beaulieu, & Nate Piekos of Blambot (DC COMICS) reunites the team from “Middlewest” as they take The Last Czarnian on his latest escapades.

Buckle in as this is gonna be one hell of a ride along!

LOBO #1 by Skottie Young, Jorge Corona, Jean-François Beaulieu, & Nate Piekos of Blambot (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Right from the start, readers know this isn’t gonna be a typical read. Young taps into all that comprises the best of Lobo: Drinking, Violence and the sense of twisted honor. His run-in concerning a parking spot turns quickly into a bloody clarification of “IDGAF”. From here, Lobo enters into the space watering hole with much going on around him. The writing shows the interactions to be awkward and crude, mainly on Lobo’s part. Once the question of an “Anti-Hero” comes up due to a movie, the story takes a unique and fun turn.

Young gives readers a quick and unapologetic 101 lesson in Lobo. The narration covers his wins and questionable moments (looking at you, New 52 Lobo). It serves as a great bait and switch onto the real dilemma he’s involved in. Readers watch as it plays out in a different direction than intended. This leads Lobo into a business meeting he doesn’t see coming. Rest assured, this goes off like any Lobo negotiations would. There’s plenty of violence to go around. Once the smoke clears, the closing pages will raise some eyebrows as to where things lead. Suffice to say, this is just the tip of a titanic iceberg ready to crash for readers’ enjoyment.

MORE FROM DC COMICS!

Corona & Beaulieu kick off events with a loud look at Lobo arriving to “Chug ‘N Slug”. The visuals lock in on the quirkiness of space patrons after Lobo disposes of one. That moment gets a half page visual, becoming the pace setter for the issue. Readers watch as Lobo enters with a slew of various alien designs staring back. It creates a sense of wonder as he moves through the crowd. Once his eyes get locked on a movie on the screen, his demeaner changes rapidly.

This sparks two incredible two page spreads that recap his life. Corona’s attention to detail is impressive as he nails details. There’s much to dive into on these pages. Once this concludes, the real Lobo peaks out on the panels. This leads to some heated exchanges as Lobo is jetting to his next business meeting. Seeing the head of the business pop up fom his desk leads into a wild visual. It gets eclipsed by a two page visual of Lobo messing up the security in the room. Readers can see this as a perfect depiction of Lobo doing his dirty work. Panels reflect the wild carnage taking place. This eventually leads to an exclamation point stop via full page. A new proposition has been given with endless fraggin possibilities.

FINAL GRADE: 8.6

The Main Man comes back to comics in an adventure that can only be his. Young brings out all the brash and bad-ass characteristics that fans know and love. Corona & Beaulieu construct fantastic visuals unveiling all the violence and dark humor that Lobo can deliver. This is gonna be an insane trip when it’s all said and done.
