GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14 (DC COMICS)

GUY GARDNER IS THE “ALLSIGHT OF OA”?!?!

That is NOT a typo!

In the aftermath of DC K.O., Gardner was the recipient of an extreme power boost. This came with a unique consequence. The Emotional Entities, which vanished, have now returned in the form of visions in Guy’s mind. One can imagine this isn’t sitting well with the Green Lantern Corps favorite jerk. Plus, what is going on with Katma Tui?! Only one way to find out!

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14 by Morgan Hampton, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Arif Prianto, & Dave Sharpe heads into its’ post DC K.O. arc!

Let’s take a look at what drama in unfolding now!

GREEN LANTERN CORPS #14 by Morgan Hampton, Fernando Pasarin, Oclair Albert, Arif Prianto, & Dave Sharpe (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Hampton opens with one of the more surreal moments in GLC history. Gardner’s monologue welcomes the audience into the uncomfortable status quo. His words mirror the uncertainty of the present. The conversation with Narf is a fun one to break up the serious nature of “Holy Guy”. It is a welcomed pivot point as the issue heads int a more serious backdrop concerning John Stewart. His relationship with Katma has been “trained” to put it mildly.

Their dialogue is more grounded in the pulls of their foundation. It is a nice peek into the real world issues that loom inside the fantasy scape of the average Corps saga. Hampton nails the emotion with perfect execution. This moves their journey into Korugar and an familiar face. Readers watch as this becomes a rouse for something more evil. This sense of danger weighs heavy on the issue. When Gardner summons other Lanterns on his “prophecy”, it moves the issue into a more recognizable realm. Both plot points leave with strong cliffhangers going into next issue. In one arc, there are two great plots that ill lock readers in for a while with. Solid work by Hampton in juggling these points.

MORE GREEN LANTERN!

The art team open with a look at Gardner’s divine intervention. Narf’s walk through Guy’s temple leads to an odd, but loud statement. Seeing others worshiping him gets a full page vision. This is a sight that takes a minute to sink in (Don’t take that in any wrong way. it’s a great story twist). Guy’s vision of the Entities gets a half panel to mover their story portion forward. Seeing his glee in getting rid of the visions is a nice touch before the subject matter gets deeper.

Readers watch as the tension between Katma and Stewart hits turbulence. The art locks in on the many phases of emotional ware in this sequence. It leads to a more impactful move to heading to Korugar. Once here, the action picks up with the returning guest. Readers watch as there is way more going on than just picking a fight. It leads to a confrontation with an impressive full page change. Guy’s story carries some naturally comedic moments before speeding into action. This leads into a statement making closing page. The final full shot indicates more than meets the eye with this group of Lantern rogues. Readers will be pleased with what they get here.

FINAL POINT: 8.6

Guy Gardner…The Allsight Of Oa. Need I say more? Hampton takes readers on a fantastic look at the post K.O. era with a great script. The art team balance out Guy’s wild new looks with a more relatable John Stewart plot. A great place for readers to jump on and buckle in for the long haul.
