JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #20 (DC COMICS)

The Brainiac Queen is back?!

One of the architects behind “Absolute Power” has returned with a vengeance. The JLU is already rocked by the loss of Superman. Relying on villains like Lex Luthor to fill the void is a challenge onto itself. Seeing if they can help stop a threat that nearly wiped out all super-powered beings is a whole other ballgame.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #20 by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Fico Ossio, Tamra Bonvillain & Ariana Maher heads into dangerous territory!

Let’s get a closer look at what happens now.

JUSTICE LEAGUE UNLIMITED #20 by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Fico Ossio, Tamra Bonvillain & Ariana Maher (DC Comics)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Waid wastes no time in reminding readers how dangerous of a character the Queen can be. The opening sequence is frantic as she is lashing out to find her “mother” Amanda Waller. Readers watch as the League tries to subdue her with little success. It is non stop action at this stage. Pacing gets a small break with the Terrific “Powers Planet” portion. Seeing him lead that squad in alien territory sets up much of their saga.

Once events shift back to the Queen, Waid injects a few other elements into the combustible situation. It pushes the thin line of unity amongst the Amnesty Leaguers. Having all these egos trying to solve the problem leads into dynamic places. Readers watch it all come to an explosive end. One character’s actions knocks down a lead domino that turns into a ticking timebomb. A straight-forward superhero story in the end.

READ LAST ISSUE’S REVIEW HERE!

Mora and Ossio split art duties for this chapter. Both have electric art styles perfect for huge action. The opening full shot of the Queen ready to fight kickstarts a wild pace. There’s never a let-up for readers. Each page is bursting with amazing art. Even the detour to the alien planet pours more gas on the high-octane art. A full page brings in the Amnesty Leaguers. Watching the reactions of Batman and Luthor leads to more friction inside the Watchtower. This causes quite the chain reaction. Another great full page final shot cements what one wrong move can do. An excellent visual ride from cover to finish.

FINAL GRADE: 8.6

The Queen is back and nobody is safe in this action-packed issue. Waid constructs a direct and unstable encounter with the dangerous threat. The art elevates the script to new heights with magnificent art. If you want superhero comics, JLU has to be at the top of your list!
