INGLORIOUS X-FORCE #4 by Tim Seeley, Philip Tan, Romulo Fajardo Jr. & Joe Caramagna (Marvel Comics)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
This is easily the best issue of the series thus far. Seeley wastes little time in picking up after Boom Boom’s attack on Domino. The writing keeps up the intrigue as the other members become involved. Considering how Boom Boom is found, there is a great deal of finger pointing. Cable’s cold tone leads into his own style of interrogation. The result puts Angel at a very uncomfortable realization. This helps move events to the next conflict stage with ease.
Readers watch as the team heads to an old S.H.I.E.L.D. site searching for answers. The pace picks up as Cable and company are greeted by some long lost X-villains. Action picks up to give the foes a real threat sense. This is an upgrade from the two previous issues. It also allows for a nice plot twist to take place. The writing sets this moment up with a steady direction. This allows the main threat to finally waltz into play. Once said person appears, it finally feels like the endgame for Cable and company has arrived & not a moment too soon.

Tan steps in with Fajardo Jr. for art duties this go around. The opening pages are quick to establish the worry of what’s transpired. Each expression shown indicates the trust breaking with each member. Once Cable’s breakdown takes center stage, the panels drive home the seriousness of his nature. Panels walking through Archangel’s transformations add a nice touch to the mounting distrust. The art ends this part with a solid tease involving Domino before launching into the main event.
Once the team arrives in Florida, the one becomes one of business. Cable’s leadership takes it up a few notches concerning a certain name’s possible involvement. Fans watch as a few sub plot points get addressed. This takes nothing away form the action when it starts. Panels move fast but deliver on what is expected. As stated earlier, this is the first time it feels like a real threat is presented to the team. This feel starts winding down as their challengers are dealt with. This sets up a superb final full page. Seeing who has entered the game changes everything as the breaking point has arrived!
FINAL GRADE: 9
Is Kamala Khan’s murderer finally discovered? That is the question lingering around the strongest issue of IXF to date. Seeley’s writing brings out all the complexity of a fractured team. Tan & Fajardo Jr. create impressive images leading into a show-stopping final page. An impressive look at a notorious team’s struggle to save the future without destroying themselves in the process.
