*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
If you’re new to my reviews of this series, first and foremost, Thank you for checking this out. The past two issues I have been critical on how Seeley writes Boom Boom. I’m not a fan of the take. That said, Seeley opens up with a recap of her life outside of the group. Her personality is on display with paints a very broken picture. Once in present times, her inner monologue changes as the group attacks the Beyond Corp. Readers see how Tabitha Smith breaks down her teammates until they escape with a new agenda.
The journey now takes them to Minnesota. Tabitha’s monologue here recaps the days spent in the ill-fated Next Wave. After some brief action, the team stumbles further into unknown territory. Seeley reaches deep for a call back when Dirk Anger makes an appearance. His entrance ushers in the true threat at hand. The writing goes into a more disturbing level as it progresses. Boom Boom is forced to face her demons. The others have their own issues to work around. It leads to an interesting resolution. The fallout ties up Boom Boom’s intro much in the same manner. However, the noteworthy part is the final page. Seeley leaves a great cliffhanger to work with till next time.

Sta. Maria & Fajardo Jr. display Boom Boom’s pre-X life. It is one that shows her true painful moments. This gets pushed aside for the mission at hand. Hellverine’s save gets a half panel before everything goes sideways. Post mission encounters vary in reactions. There’s more bickering than confrontations in these panels. It allows the mood to settle before transferring locations. Once here, business steps up a bit to push Boom Boom’s story.
The U.W.M.D. half panel shows the danger they bring. Caramagna’s lettering handles that challenge with ease. This allows events to stroll into suburbia territory. Anger’s schemes lead into some questionable places. The first one is the wildest one. Readers watch as multiple Boom Boom’s appear on page. How they’re getting there is a messed-up situation. It kickstarts the action back up. Pacing moves events nicely into a fast finish. The epilogue is a full circle moment which panels ends in a strong fashion. Readers will have many questions after the last page.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
Boom Boom takes center stage as the next contestant in Cable’s dangerous game. Seeley’s writing puts pressure on battle through the past. Sta. Maria & Fajardo Jr.’s art covers much of the themes involved for this go-around. This series has been quite a surprise with where it leads readers and Cable alike.
