Rucka opens this round with a look at Kate’s father Jake. His dialogue with Cat attempts to steer his mind clear. Once he realizes Kate’s back in action, a sense of worry overwhelms him. It’s completely justified. Kane has sent a message to Slay and his crew. There is no mistaking what it means. Batwoman has arrived in Petalon. From here, the pacing revs events up to a more action filled pace.

Kane’s attack on Slay is calculated and extreme. There is no give on her punches. Readers watch as every move is delivered with pin-point accuracy. Slay’s attempt to rally is met with opposition. Jake’s reactions chasing his daughters whereabouts adds to the drama. It elevates the story past allies in combat. This reflects a father trying to care for his child.
