GREEN LANTERN #36 by Jeremy Adams, Ig Guara, Montos, Romulo Fajardo Jr., & Dave Sharpe (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Adams embraces the weird before heading into more comfortable territory. The opening with Dr. Skin gets wild as the alien strikes. It forces Kyle to take drastic measures. The dialogue shifts to Odyssey’s reasons behind looking at getting work done. There’s little time to process this as another familiar face crashes the party.

Longtime Rayner fans know when Jade shows up, the mood instantly changes. The awkwardness takes hold as all parties get their introductions. Adams plays this moment up perfectly. The writing also allows Odyssey to take a new role in this equation. This leads to a quirky resolution of the sub plot at hand. As stated earlier, embrace the weirdness of where the drama is. After that is resolved, the final page sends readers home with a smile as new possibilities are evolving.

Guara & Montos bring out the insanity of the doctor visit in the opening sequence. Action is fast-paced and chaotic. It moves Rayner to make a huge move. The half panel strike ends events for now to move into more personal space. Odyssey’s talk is more grounded in structure before being interrupted.

The full page image of Jade changes the temp in the room. Readers watch as the old flames start tio re-ignite. Their expressions are happy as they try not tipping off hands. This moves events to Odyssey’s movie premiere. Panels are every bit of frantic as a real premier gets. It’s more wild once the Big Belly Burger mascots arrive. The images reflect the wild side of this DCU-LA life. It’s a great moment to usher in the close with. The final full page shot wraps up everything to the letter with a wide open future awaiting.

FINAL GRADE: 8.4

A former flame burst back into Kyle’s life while Odyssey learns the high cost of fame! Adams takes Rayner and company into some wild spaces with the writing. The art teams deliver on the drama and craziness of mascots. Welcome to Hollywood, Kyle!
