*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Porter shows the troubles with ego and power throughout this issue. Jor-El’s offerings to Earth have created much fame and envy. The writing shows him focused on his drive to make the world better. When an ethical question comes into play, the dialogue turns frank as Jor-El talks down to Lex Luthor. This causes a predictable spark to be lit. In this universe, there are many similarities on how it will explode.
Readers see that Jor-El’s desire to help causes more friction with key figures. Gen. Lane maintains the distrust as the world is passing him by. On the other hand, Lois gravitates towards Jor-El as a second father. This happier segment quickly turns as a major threat is unleashed onto the masses. Jor-El quickly goes into action, giving the story a needed boost. The fight concludes in a devious manner. Emotions run high as Jor-El makes a rash decision. It helps move events to a genuine shocking close. No one should see who appears on the final page coming,. Rest assured, things just became way more complicated.

Earls and Filardi open with some classic Superman action. Jor-El’s stoppage of a robbery leads into a clearer picture of his new world vision. The reactions of those around him carry some wonder. One has a sense of disrespect as Jor-El doesn’t like the tone taken. This leads into more riffs amongst the supporting cast. Their reaction to Jor-El’s impact covers much ground. This matches Jor-El’s superhero match-ups. A full page breaks down all the threats that posed a challenge before ultimately feeling defeat.
This leads to the main event of the issue. A half page shot brings out Jor-El’s anger. His opponent is gifted one all his own. Another near full shot unveils the first punch thrown. This catapults the fight across many panels. Its’ finish is more subdued to mystery as another figure comes in for an unwelcomed assist. This leads to a dramatic face-off that spirals into the finish. As the closing pages roll out, a huge surprise arrives. The final full page image unveils a true threat towards what Jor-El has built and the future at large.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
