STORY OVERVIEW:

Godzilla shrouded in a Symbiote shield with an army of Symbiotes flanking him has arrived at the Wakandans planet. Godzilla’s hatred of the Black Panthers due to T’Challa leading his ostracism from Earth knows no bounds and Knull knows this and has taken full advantage of it. Black Bolt is called in to defeat Godzilla with his voice and at first, he thinks he accomplished the goal. Unfortunately for him and Wakanda it just pissed him off and caused all out destruction. As the intergalactic powers grieve the destruction of Wakanda and the death of Black Bolt, Earth’s heroes show up to offer their help. The Avengers make plans with Skrull’s; well, the Guardians of the Galaxy try and take Knull. However, if they unsuccessful it appears that Asgard and the Yggdrasil, The World Tree are in Godzilla’s sights.

WRITING:

The first issue hits the ground running and never lets up. Gerry Duggan starts the story off hot and never takes his foot off the gas. Duggan comes up with an awesome way to have Godzilla seemingly working with Knull, well at the same time Knull knows he has no control over the King of Monsters. The way Duggan sets up the hero community coming together to take on the massive threat that the makeshift partnership has created brings an epic feel to this issue and series. The decision to kill Black Bolt off in the first issue was a shocking and very effective death to let the readers know the threat is real.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this first issue has an epic feel and portrays the story in the best light possible. Javier Garrón and Ig Guara absolutely nail the artwork in this issue. The sweeping scenes of destruction in Wakanda, coupled with the amazing character designs, really set the tone for the series. Godzilla, sporting what appears to be a Symbiote bulletproof vest, is a great and unique touch. The heroes, Symbiotes, and of course Knull all look amazing and leave very little to the imagination. Shout out to Jesus Aburtov for the color selections which make the artwork stand out that much more.

Final Thoughts:

Godzilla: Infinity Roar #1 is an awesome kickoff to an amazing crossover series. The table is set with a very aggressive and calculated story that brings the heat right out of the gate. Couple that with some amazing artwork that nails the same vibe of the story, and you have the makings of something epic. This is a must grab at the LCS this week and is my Pick of the Week!

FINAL GRADE: 10/10
