In 1983, Marvel Comics released G.I. Joe #21 by Larry Hama. The issue was entitled “Silent Interlude”. It is legendary not because its’ the first appearance of Storm Shadow.The Snake-Eyes driven story stood out for another reason.

Fast forward to April 2025 & G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero is having a resurgence under the Skybound Entertainment Banner. The line decided to pay homage to this creative style of story telling with their“Silent Missions”one-shots.
The five issue run was so successful that they have now decided to run it back. This time, the focus is from the point of view of COBRA!

The team waste little time gettign Firefly starting some havoc. A full page image shows him soaring to action. Scoping out THE OKTOBER GUARD never makes for an easy day at the office. Readers watch as he begins to execute his plans. There is a strong sense of danger as he advances in the headquarters. The acrobatic display to move in silence launches events into deep waters. Another solid panel shows a hint of what the COBRA standout is up against. It conveys deadly times are coming with no mercy to give.

Readers watch as each page shows how Firefly takes out his opposition. Panel structure makes each takedown more impactful. It helps give a detailed look at each deadly blow. This gets overshadowed by two incredible pages with a detailed look at Firefly maneuvering. The attention to detail is very strong. Fornés focus on Firefly’s eyes lock readers in on the determination to score. This gets amplified when an alarm goes off. Knowing he’s in trouble, a full page image explains a possible way out. It moves events into a calmer finish. The final page leaves no doubt about what the importance of the job was.

High risk, higher reward is what fuels the latest silent mission in the world of G.I. Joe: ARAH. The creative team delivers on very direct seek and destroy mission with a deeper meaning fueling it. Another exciting display of the creative storytelling format!
