*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Time and time again, Starks finds ways to up the ante on the dark humor and twisted takes surrounding Eddie’s life. Smiley’s time in prison shows how life is starting to improve with a new member of the crew. The writing shows the sarcasm as he holds court. His cluelessness in certain prison lingo leads to more laughs as he waits to hear about Neils’ efforts. It doesn’t take long to see how well he’s done.
Readers watch as Rumplemindt and Neils relish in their torturous ways. The banter between all parties is blunt and unapologetic. You would expect nothing less. It crafts the tone of how much trouble Eddie currently resides in. Starks shakes things up with both Pluto residents and the Menagerie as each assist in making this world jump off the panels. George’s time is shorter but reflective of the broken relationship with his son. He does have a standout moment with grave implications behind it. That said, nothing takes away from Eddie’s attempt to fight his captors. It moves events to a more shocking finish as another element just complicated Eddie’s time once again.
