Well, as normal as it gets for the Man Without Fear. Returning to class at Empire State University turns more complicated as The Owl comes looking to cash in on the favor he’s owed.
The reason behind it is one that failing to help could spell disaster for the City That never Sleeps!

Let’s take a look at where things stand now.

Phillips gives Murdock a small reprieve in the early stages of the book. After a brief look at Matt’s chaotic mission, time jumps back to the ESU campus. His interactions are vintage Murdock as talking with Lauren Baker (his student) comes with a bit of Venom from the undergrad. The transition to Dr. Ellison teases a more pleasant talk. It doesn’t escape the Murdock charm before moving events to the Owl.
Readers watch as the scheme rolls out with some hidden angst behind it. Once Daredevil becomes involved, the mood shifts greatly. Their exchange is more coy than cordial. The blueprint of Owl’s dilemma comes to light with grave stakes behind it. It forces Daredevil’s hand in how to act with a simple word. Readers watch as Daredevil begins to shake down the city in search of the issue at hand. This is definitely not an isolated incident. It leads Daredevil into more dangerous grounds. All the while, another figure is lurking on the last page with a vested interest all their own.

Flaviano and Renzi open with a fantastic opening page of Daredevil in full action. Using smaller panels brings out the quickness of events. It provides a sound transition to ESU life. The expressions Baker carries towards Murdock seethe with frustration. The response is more laid back as Murdock spins wheels to get out of the drama. Dr. Ellison’s time is more friendly on the surface. It is not without annoyance in Ellison’s response to Murdock’s attempts to charm.
The Owl’s beginnings show his maniacal grin while staging events. After a half panel shows Maher’s lettering announcing the scheme, A spectacular full shot shows daredevil swinging into action. Their panels are more conflicted as Owl’s grin never fades to Daredevil’s clinching jaw. After the issue is explained, Daredevil jumps into some great action panels. A magnificent full page shows Daredevil taking down some henchmen. It steers events into a solid two page spread. The final panel welcomes in a guest star that is an immediate impact player in the game. Only thing missing is a Jessica Harrow run-in (but that’s the Grim fan in me wishful thinking). Excellent work.
FINAL GRADE: 8.8
An uneasy proposition pushes Daredevil into a search to avoid grim possibilities in a fantastic new story. Phillips ushers in this unique alliance with many questions behind it. Flaviano and Renzi deliver on excellent images of Matt’s trek through NYC. No rest for a guardian devil in another epic story!
