STORY OVERVIEW:

After Adam turned into the Wolf Man and took out the police station full of cops. He stopped just short of attacking his father as his dad produced the amulet that his mother wore to ward off the curse. Adam runs off and the detective and his father are in pursuit. Upon returning to the family home, the detective starts to learn about the family secrets. But is it too late for her, as Adam in his Wolf Man form has returned home and he is full of blood rage.

WRITING:

The final issue of this series hits hard and keeps the action and horror to the max. Joshua Williamson puts an exclamation point on his Wolf Man tale and doesn’t disappoint. The action and violence run high in this finale. Giving readers what they expect from a Wolf Man story. However, Williamson also delivers some much needed drama, suspense, and even intrigue with this final issue. The reveal that Adam’s mom and her family were afflicted with the curse of the Werewolf was something that has been teased throughout but never confirmed. This confirmation alongside Adam’s father’s role in the cover up is sure to take every reader by surprise. The final pages of this issue play out with a master level of drama and bring a great humanistic quality to the finish. Ending on an emotional note, rather than a horror-filled one sets this story apart from other horror books on the market. Williamson delivers a final gut punch, before hinting at a possible sequel down the road. This final issue checks all of the boxes and is sure to please fans of this series as well as fans of Universal Monsters in general.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this final issue matches the energy and tone of the issue perfectly. Leomacs captures not just the carnage and horror of the story, but also the drama and emotions as well. The Wolf Man design is incredible and gives readers all the feels of the classic monster movies. Couple this with some tremendous character emotion and drama and just like the story the artwork captures it all. Pip Martin’s colors give the issue an aged look and help with the setting and the time period we find ourselves in. At the same time the colors bring out the gore and definitely make the house fire scene feel real and threatening. Overall, the art team really crushed the look and feel of this issue and series.

Final Thoughts:

Universal Monsters: Blood of the Wolf Man #4 delivers a brutal, emotional finale that balances classic monster horror with genuine human tragedy. Williamson and the art team bring the series to a satisfying close while leaving the door open for more. For those of us who have been reading this series as it’s been released, it is a fitting and great ending to this great series.
