*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

One thing is for certain about this series. Camp isn’t scared to take this series into complex situations. The play of the Agency evolves into a dangerous fight while trying to sort truth out. The writing doesn’t wait to put Jones in the line of fire. Rainbow’s attack is unapologetic in delivery. The same can be said for Despair-The-Zero’s “encouragement”. Readers watch as the fight continues to rise with each page. The banter between enemies becomes more insane as Jones fights back. It becomes clear Jones is in way over his head with no easy escape in sight.

The Bridget/Tyler side plot is a power full piece to the overall puzzle. Watch Bridget’s mind race with recent events leads into a partial discovery of issues. She knows there’s something wrong with her son. As for what it is, that remains hidden. Camp teases the heartbreaking truth with ease to offset the main drama. Once events head back into the shoot-out, John Jones takes some drastic measures to escape. His will teeters on denial and over confidence. It leads to a interesting path for the remainder of the issue. There’s a fair share of impactful moments all hitting at once. The writing keeps the momentum at an all time high speeding into the final page. As for that, a chilling vision of one character sends readers home with much to prepare for heading into the next chapter.

Rodríguez lets loose on a distinct war zone in the opening rounds of this issue. Jones’ time inside the hotel bar hint at the lengths he’s willing to go to survive. His calm cigarette pull leads into lighting the match (literally) for the free-for-all. After this stage, the art is exploding everywhere. Otsmane-Elhaou becomes the star here as his lettering is making every scene pop from the page. The panel with the varying skulls behind Jones’ return fire is a prime example of how ingenious his vision of combat is.

A full shot of the Agency at work breaks up the bullets at a key time. It provides a solid transition moment to Bridget and Tyler. Her thoughts fill the air with exquisite lettering. Readers can easily see the dread in her thoughts, teasing something else. This comes back in a monster way later in the chapter. Once events go back to combat, the art unlocks the hellish and unorthodox combat at hand. There are so many panels that the audience will fall in love with. Rodríguez leans into the psychedelic effect heavily bringing Jones into the closing moments. This gets flipped into another avenue before the frightening final page. There’s much for readers to worry with excitement onto where things go from here.

FINAL POINT: 9.7

Every time one may think this creative team can’t top themselves, an issue like this occurs. Camp challenges Jones on many levels with phenomenal writing . Rodríguez and Otsmane-Elhaou bring the action to a combustible finish with every panel. This series continues to be a benchmark for other creative teams to attempt to follow.
