ABSOLUTE GREEN LANTERN #15 by Al Ewing, Sid Kotian, Prasad Rao&Lucas Gattoni (DC COMICS)

*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***

Ewing applies heavy pressure when it comes to Jo’s will. Each move she does seems to force her instincts to press forward. This all comes after the Black Hands strike at Stewart and Gardner. The mood escalates fast as the fight rages on. Readers see Stewart’s stance as the dialogue comes for him. Events move fast until a shocking yet understandable (if you know the “GG: Warrior” days) move. Gardner’s bold display of power turns heads and the tide. It serves up the transition point needed for the main event.

Jo and Tomar’s battle delves into questioning Jo’s faith in powers. Readers watch as Tomar manipulates the conflict with a broad sense of confusion. This leads Jo into self discovery. The conversation becomes more heated as Tomar’s jabs start wearing Jo down. However, not all is as what it seems. This leads into a well played turn of hands. Jo’s reserve pushes the conflict into deeper waters. There is never a doubt of what she is capable form this moment. The end result makes a definitive statement behind Jo’s bold proclamations. It helps reset focus to the growing danger in the air. The final page leaves nothing to change as the real evil in the universe has arrived with a vengeance.

Kotian & Rao stage the beginning with a mysterious flare. This subsides to a strong two page spread of the Black Hands fight. Stewart’s mannerisms steal panels as he’s hearing what Katra is saying in his ear. The doubt in reaction spills into more conflict. It gives way for Guy Gardner to take the moment. His unique answer to the fight is given a half panel. Some may feel this is extreme but it does the trick to conclude this portion.

As the other fight takes hold, the art is more simplistic in presenting the scuffle. The first strike is give a quarter panel to start off events. Readers can see Jo’s rage building to Tomar’s constant smirk. This implodes into a fnatatsic two page spread. Seeing Tomar expand his power reach throws a true challenge in place. Rao’s coloring is excellent during these pages. It grows Jo’s strengths to a monster turning point. The half page image shows how fats events have flipped. It eases events back to the original brawl. A strong full page teases the sinister two page splash following. This all leads into a huge reveal on the final page. There’s no turning back from this moment.

FINAL POINT: 8.3

Jo’s limits are pushed to extreme levels as the universe is slipping further into fear. Ewing brings out the true essence of Jo’s fortitude. The art team never falters on presenting the brutal fighting. No one is ready for who arrives on the final page. Buckle in now!
