Ewing returns to Jo’s story with a very peculiar take. The opening in space creates an uneasy welcome. Hal Jordan’s unlocking of the Star Sapphire energy is broken down by the two powerful Lanterns. The conversation is more casual than one might think. Jo’s recap of events proves enlightening right before they lay out a more serious decree. Readers watch as Stewart’s words remain haunting in teasing what lies ahead.

Gears shift to Simon Baz & Cameron Chase. Their banter is much relaxed as they talk Jo’s disappearance. Hammond’s forces come in hot, causing a huge action sequence. It provides a fun break till events circle back to space. Jo’s talk with Tomar reaches a breaking point. Readers watch as he gives his painful back story. The reasons he wants to take down the Black Stars is blunt and unapologetic. His maneuvering in trying to manipulate Jo proves for much needed drama. It builds into a sound final parting shot. Even with the last minute drama, something still feels missing in his sequence.

Kotian & Rao start with a quiet look into deep space. A two page splash unlocks a deceptive view of events. Stewart and Gardner’s observations lead into a needed talk. Jo’s restlessness comes through in these panels. Patience is not on the agenda in this meeting. Readers watch as Stewart’s cold demeanor comes through processing the dialogue. It leads into a solid break form space into an action packed return to Earth.

Baz and Chase’s exchange with Hammond’s forces delivers on action. Panels move as fast as the bullets flying. There’s a true feel of danger encompassing the panels. It leads to a high speed escape. Chase’s look speaks volumes before turning the wheel back to Jo. Tomar’s menacing looks lead into painful flashbacks. His upbringing comes into play and how it relates to the Black Stars. A side panel shows how he unleashes a shot at Jo. This is compiled even more in dealing with Stewart and Gardner. The deadly stare from the eyes runs through the audience. A near full page shot shows Tomar’s plans before a two page spread welcomes in his opposition. Momentum builds towards the final page. Another full page image shows Jo’s not ready to be taken out just yet. A solid landing for a very uneven issues.

Tomar’s plans to fight the Black Stars comes with complications in this latest chapter. Ewing’s writing puts Jo in immediate danger. The art team gives a fair balance of drama and action. Readers will have some questions after finishing this chapter.
