Liefeld gives an excellent spotlight to Shaft as he leaves it all on the battlefield. It’s a moment the original team fans can very much appreciate.
Readers also get a rematch they have been waiting for with Die-Hard and Vandal. While brief, it lives up to billing. Pacing is quick as the amount of characters being added is admirable. Prophet’s injection to the fight becomes a turning point. The combat with Kodiak (of New-Man fame) leads into more chaotic brawling. It serves as a sizable undercard to the real main event. Lord Chapel and his group vs. The Keep feels larger than life. Each panel feels larger than life. The story turns into Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns at Wrestlemania XL with all the run-in additions. Once the smoke clears, The writing caps off the action with solid parting words as a new day has dawned.

It is very obvious when you pick up a Youngblood story, you’re coming for big action. Say what you will about Liefeld, but he’s always delivered on huge action scenes. The build to the Shepard and Keep gets a full shot. This becomes overshadowed by a tow page spread of a united Youngblood. Shaft is give an incredible two-page spread of him on the attack. It leads to another full page image as the battle starts getting out of hand.
Doe-Hard vs. Vandal go all out in the time they were given. Badrock with Thor’s Hammer does make up for some of this moment. The full page image pushes him into more combat with brutal results. Readers watch as Prophet’s appearance doesn’t shy away form the violence. It encourages it. The encounter with the New Men dives into more erratic combat. Once the main event starts, it feels like a Hollywood monster movie with the full page Chapel vs. Keep fighting. These panels keep escalating the action to a solid apex . The aftermath pages slow pacing down long enough to take in what’s happened. This is all capped off with another fantastic two page spread closing this era of Youngblood with some flair.
