THE SENTRY #4 by Paul Jenkins, Christian Rosado, Matt Milla & Joe Caramagna (Marvel Comics)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Coming off the deeply emotional last chapter, Jenkins went right to work on the superhero aspects. The dramatic entrance is met with some slight friction from Reed Richards. Sentry’s words calm events down long enough to establish a plan. The scenes with Hulk offer some quick laughs as the mission starts playing out. Readers watch as the Sentry flies into the belly of the beast. It results in a more traditional superhero throwdown.
Readers watch as the team-up works up the Sentry’s importance. There is a sense of wonder as events start revolting in the heroes favor. Panels carry a triumph feel as the Golden Guardian takes control of the moment. It results in a steady, but predicable conclusion for the plague. The Void’s side plot with Kingpin also gets some closure but ultimately feels lackluster of real purpose. The fans get more bang for the buck with Reed and Sentry’s epilogue talk. Jenkins pens a true friends chat as the subject matter moves in waves. It results in a steady finish with proper finality.

Rosado & Milla open with a more chaotic start than some may think. The Plague has done its’ damage. Robert Reynolds enters via half page panel. The shattering of crystals leads into an intense face-off with Reed. Their body language changes quick as the threat takes priority. It allows for a fun sequence with Hulk to take shape. Pacing helps make the mood feel more of the gravity of the situation. It concludes with a bold half page image of a triumphant Sentry.
The aftermath is very direct in presentation. Kingpin’s “goodbye” with the Void pins into a weird state. This portion just never felt like it added to the overall picture here. Seeing the heroes relax over a cookout felt like a great throwback moment to the MCU. Reed and Bob’s talk goes into a few varying states. Each expression shows the concern of the other. The closing pages give Bob a full shot in space to handle a bittersweet moment. This ushers in a calm closing panel to send readers out with a smile. Very straight-forward in presentation here.
FINAL GRADE: 8
Robert Reynolds has one last shot to stop the crystalline plague! Jenkins elevates the super heroics for a great finish. Rosado & Milla mix in steady action with the conversation between friends. An engaging look into Marvel’s most polarizing hero.
