STORY OVERVIEW:

Cyclops regroups and brings the X-Men up to speed on his time in the future with the help of Quentin. Now they all know the importance of finding Doug Ramsey and stopping this future from happening. After leaving the X-Men’s base in Alaska it appears Doug has joined a Morlock settlement in Arizona. As the X-Men make their way there, they run into a Nazi Mutant group known as Fenris. This group is led by the Von Strucker siblings, two mutants that’s powers only work in tandem. As the X-Men take the fight to them, they get help from an adversary thought dead, but very muchly alive. Beast is back at the base deciphering the mysteries about the group 3K, what he finds out only thickens the plot.

WRITING:

This issue mixes in a few different story lines while at the same time introducing us to some new threats as well. Jed MacKay does a great job balancing all the stories that are playing out. Bringing the X-Men on the same page about Doug Ramsey well deciphering a strange truth about the future speeds up the story in a good way. The fight with Fenris brings the action to this issue and also brings the Crimson Commando and O*N*E group into the fold seamlessly. That last revelation will surely be a driving force in the story in issues to come. Lastly, having Beast figure out the 3K riddle and revealing the mastermind of said group is an awesome way to tease the next issue and beyond with a cliffhanger ending.

ARTWORK:

The artwork in this issue captures everything that is going on with great precision. The fight scene with Fenris plays out well and the depictions put the reader in the middle of the battle. The character designs are spot on and instantly resonate with readers as awesome depictions of some classic heroes. The color choices really make the art pop and draw the reader into each and every panel. Overall, this art team successfully puts all the elements together to create some magic.

Final Thoughts:

X-Men #25 brings a lot to the table and accomplishes what it needs to do to drive the story forward. The introduction of a new threat, alongside a cliffhanger reveal to close out the issue make for an excellent read. The main line X-Men story has really been driving this Shadows of Tomorrow event, and this issue is no different. A worthwhile series to check out and pick up when you are at the shop this week.

FINAL GRADE: 8.8/10
