STORY OVERVIEW:
Violet and her dad David are on the move trying to stay ahead of a mysterious white cloud that engulfs the landscape. For five years the two have been on the move trying to survive this supernatural disaster. They are getting closer to crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and the possibility of safety in the ruins of San Francisco. Just as they let their guard down momentarily, they are attacked by some hooligans. However, that is the least of any of their problems, as the ghosts that haunt these lands and created the disaster have plans to take them all.
WRITING:
This first issue sets up this catastrophic world, well immersing the reader in suspense to make sure they want more. William Harms lets the reader learn enough about the father/daughter team and the world they find themselves in to make you feel for them, well leaving enough mystery to draw you further in. The mystery of what is going on hooks the reader and builds a great deal of suspense. Harms is careful not to reveal too much, well still making you care about the protagonists. The reveal of the supernatural ghosts adds some horror to the mix and lets the reader know that this isn’t your normal apocalyptic story.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this first issue not only shows off this crazy world but also portrays some amazing character designs as well. JP Mavinga shows a different kind of apocalyptic landscape that has definitely seen better days. This brings to life the feel and emotions of this world. But where Mavinga truly shines are the character designs, specifically the ghosts. These ghosts look awesome and incorporate fire to great effect. Speaking of great effect, the color choices from Lee Loughridge further bring this world to life and allow the reader to find themselves in this nightmare of a world.

The mysterious nature of the story makes the reader want to learn more about this world and keep them on the edge of their seats with anticipation. The writing is fantastic and the artwork is amazing. This is a different kind of story and that shines through in this first issue. This book is a must get at the LCS this week and is also a slam dunk add to your Pull List as well.
