STORY OVERVIEW:

Cassandra Nova is meeting with Astra & Wyre, and she is feeling them out as she wants control of 3K with the Chairman being absent. Astra does not like this and is plotting her own takeover with her clone of Magneto, Joseph. Meanwhile, Nova meets with Myriad to explain that she knows Astra is coming after her and that she will be using Joseph because she thinks that gives her an advantage. Knowing this Nova still names herself the new Chairman, which causes Astra to sic Joseph on her. This backfires as Myriad helps Nova subdue him. But this fight is all for nothing as the Chairman, Dr. Henry McCoy has returned in his White Beast form. He explains he tricked the people of the future into believing he was their loveable Beast, while stealing an idea to enable 3K’s domination agenda.

WRITING:

Showing the other side of the coin in this issue from what was shown in the last issue, gives this story some needed symmetry. Jed MacKay does a great job with building up the drama with the power struggle within 3K. This shows some cracks in the team when the Chairman is away. However, MacKay’s reveal of Henry McCoy’s deception and ultimate plan really sets in motion what Shadows of Tomorrow will bring to the table. The way the mastermind reveals not just himself, but his heinous plans put the reader on the edge of their seat.

ARTWORK:

The artwork featured in this issue is noteworthy for its quality, effectively drawing readers into the narrative’s core. The art team demonstrates technical proficiency in every area, skillfully advancing the story through dynamic visuals. Scenes depicting power struggles are depicted with palpable intensity, accurately reflecting the harsh realities within the plot and lending authenticity to each conflict. Conversely, the dramatic segments are executed with considerable emotional nuance, enabling readers to engage fully with the intended narrative impact.

The color work merits particular recognition, as it thoughtfully complements the illustrations and provides each panel with a distinct and vibrant character. The chosen palette consistently supports the tone of the story, ensuring that the visuals remain visually compelling throughout. The cohesive collaboration among the artists is apparent, resulting in imagery that elevates the storytelling and creates a lasting impression for the reader.
