WOLVERINE: WEAPONS OF ARMAGEDDON #4 (MARVEL COMICS)
PRIMEWARRIOR has done the unthinkable.
Their experimentation has led to an evolution in creating super soldiers. Wolverine’s search for Tyler Torrens has brought him into the crossfire. They want the young mutant to continue their work. This isn’t flying well with Wolvie. The search has led him to the doorstep of David Colton. Being a former Captain America, Colton knows a thing or two about this issue.
Their search has brought them in front of failed solider NUKE. Now, his successor is ready to handle these heroes once and for all.

Zdarsky completes Colton’s back story before bringing on the main event. His talk with General Ross is cold and standoffish as one would expect. There is no happy moments here. As the action kicks in, readers see the desperate attempts to slow down Nuke 2.0. The writing puts over the new threat as a true challenge. This buys time for “Classic Nuke” to crash the party. All the while, Tyler’s story finally gets to a nice pivoting direction.
Readers watch as the action takes hold yet again. It is what fans would want in a Wolverine story. This leads back to Nick Pruet and Tyler. The dialogue shows Tyler scared and afraid. Pruet’s Faustian dealing throws a curve into play. The mood becomes very tense until a surprise resolution decides matters. This spirals events into a chaotic scene. One character is mortally wounded. This leads into a crucial flashback point. Wolverine is also faced with a moral dilemma. His choice does have grave consequences. This ushers events to the closing act where there is a more calm approach to what transpired. Another teases a door kept open as all roads lead to Marvel’s next major event.

Maresca and Aburtov push the action scenes to the forefront in this finale. Colton’s flashback gets a detailed look at Gen. Ross’s disappointment. As events jump to present, a near full shot shows Nuke’s clone going to work. Panels depict how Logan and Colton are easily defeated. Even with Nuke’s addition to the fray, the fight seems virtually over before it begins. This allows for a shocking turning point.
Wolverine trying to calm Tyler down from murdering Pruet is given a near full shot. Logan’s desperate pleas come with much anger from Tyler. The young mutant is still trying to wrap his head around everything. It leads to a more unforeseen action. When this domino falls, the panels swarm with two wild full panels of action. Readers can sense the tension as each move proves costly. This moves into a polarizing look at Colton in action. It’s followed up by a flashback with Steve Rogers. Once the story comes back to present, Wolverine’s choice is broken down on a full page. The result is a more calm scenario when the smoke clears. His final panel results in a proper send off. The epilogue is a completely different tale. Its’ final panel tease where things may go next. In the meantime, the door closes on a very fast moving tale.
FINAL GRADE: 8.2
The final stand with PRIMEWARRIOR proves costly with a heavy decision being made. Zdarsky goes heavy with action as Wolverine’s choice begins a dangerous prospective. The art gives readers a healthy dose of action. The road to Armageddon has officially begun.
