*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
This is the moment everything has been leading to! The Maker is trying to destroy the universe he created in a desperate act. It’s a fight that’s uniting all of the heroes against all of the member’s of The Maker’s Council in a winner take all battle. Deniz Camp’s run with the Ultimates has been nothing short of legendary. So is this the cherry on top of the sundae? Let’s jump into it!
The Story
The story picks up right where the last issue left off, and that is with the core group of Ultimates battling with the Maker and his forces inside The City. This is a winner take all battle, and neither side is holding back the punches. Deniz does a tremendous job conveying how high the stakes are, and just how powerful The Maker has become. The Maker is becoming so omnipotent that the confines of this universe will not hold him and he will go spilling out through the rest of time and space.
I really loved how Deniz still managed to raise the stakes in this final issue of the Endgame series to levels that left me stunned and shocked. The moment with Daredevil early in the issue is one that sticks out especially. Deniz also does a great job tying up some loose ends with the series and resolving some of the major plot threads. There’s a moment where Wanda Maximoff gets involved that is sure to get fans excited with the confrontation that occurs.
Deniz ultimately leaves it all on the table, and provides readers with several moments that are stunning and feel like something out of a movie. There are twists you won’t see coming, characters you didn’t expect to appear, and heartfelt moments that will pull at your heartstrings.
The ending of the issue is perhaps the most interesting part of the issue, because I did not see it playing out like it does. I will ABSOLUTELY NOT spoil anything about the ending because this truly is one you need to experience for yourself.
The Artwork
The creative team for this issue deserves every award they can possibly win. In an issue that is as monumental as this one is, you have to bring your A game. They did that and then some, because it is some of the best artwork I’ve seen not only this year, but ever. Much like the writing, the artwork left it all out there and went above and beyond for the craft. The artwork in this issue is of the level that other series should aspire to.
Overall Grade: 10/10
If you’re going to go out with a bang, then this is the way to do. Deniz Camp delivers a cherry on top of his masterpiece with this issue. A stunning story that will leave you speechless by the end, together with artwork that is on a whole other level from the rest of the industry. This is an issue that you CANNOT miss.
