The Story
The story continues it’s straightforward approach to great success. The familiar pattern you see in the first two issues continue into this one and it’s a formula that works. The storytelling method is one that feels familiar to Star Wars fans new & old. The highlight of the issue is where Vader takes on a sizeable force looking to stop him. If you’re a fan of the way Vader’s been portrayed the last couple of years, especially in comics, you’re going to love this.
The issue plays out about how you would expect, which isn’t a bad thing. The story is set between Episode V & VI of the films, so ultimately we know what’s going to happen to these characters. The issue & the series work very well if you’re looking for a thrilling Star Wars story but don’t want to have to read a ton of content to get familiar with what’s going on. Do you know who Luke, Leia, Chewie, R2-D2, C-3PO & Darth Vader are? Then you’re all set to go!
The Artwork
Jethro Morales, Roi Mercado & Rachelle Rosenberg are still in charge of the art for the issue and they really do a tremendous job recreating the likeness of the actors from the movies. There’s also the familiar look that Marvel has done for the Star Wars series over the years that really lends some familiarity to longtime fans. It’s the sense of familiarity, together with how easy a story it is to jump into that add to the readability of the issue.
Overall Grade: 7/10
A solid entry into to the series that continues the familiar formula that’s tried and true. Together with artwork that longtime comic fans will be very familiar with. This is an issue you’re not going to want to miss out on.
