STORY OVERVIEW:
After fending off the Decepticons, Elita Prime and the Autobots finally make their way to the Autobots base. Once there they discover that they are not the only ones that have returned to Cybertron. As Hot Rod and Springer are back from the Sacred Ring with news that they have a bunch of Energon and that there is more where that came from. Meanwhile back on Earth, Optimus is adjusting to no longer being the Prime and also no longer being an Autobot. Arcee Magnus has assumed a greater role while Optimus is down in the dumps. However, this division will have a price as a Decepticon storm is brewing.
WRITING:
This issue shows all the angles from the fallout of the Autobots, well setting up for the bigger crossover that is emerging in the Energon Universe. Robert Kirkman does a great job of showing the fallout in the different Autobot factions. The struggles Optimus is going through both mentally and physically are relatable and make you feel empathy for him. At the same time, Elita Prime is finding out that being the head of the Autobots is a stressful job. But the biggest news coming out of this issue is the greater crossover tease. Tying in Void Rivals with the appearance of Springer and Hot Rod is promising for where the Energon Universe is undoubtedly going next.
ARTWORK:
The artwork in this issue continues with the old school Transformers feel. Jason Howard makes the artwork kind of reminiscent of the movie from the 1980’s. This brings an air familiarity to the artwork especially for old school fans. Howard’s attention to detail in the designs of the Transformers is amazing and he really takes good care to give them their own personal style and customizations. Mike Spicer’s color pallet compliments the artwork and brings out the details in the characters and backgrounds.

Final Thoughts:
Transformers #33 is a good follow up to what’s been going on with the split of the Autobots. Add to that the tease of a crossover with Void Rivals and the Decepticons are still looming and you have a powder keg set to explode. As this series continues, it proves to be one of the most consistent books in the shops today. At this point if you haven’t jumped on the Transformers/Energon Universe bandwagon, you are missing out and need to rectify that ASAP.
FINAL GRADE: 9.2/10
