TITANS #32 by John Layman, Pete Woods, & Wes Abbott (DC COMICS)
*** POSSIBLE SPOILER WARNING ***
Layman gives the team a fond farewell in his final issue of the series. The writing shows the influence Donna Troy has had on the team. Anytime dealing with Terra, it’s always a tricky situation due to her past. Readers watch as the team decides what to do with her in reference to the Earth evacuation. The choice is made with an uneasy conclusion. Raven’s dialogue sells the point enough to make it a go. The result turns out to be a predictable failure.
Raven’s approach on dealing with Terra is a new take to say the least. Pending how versed you are with Titans lore, watching this unfold between these two is an interesting element. The resolution moves events to where they need to be for the closing. Another big point of this chapter is Donna/Grail/Arsenal. The writing plays into the superhero themes to welcome another group into the mix. It allows for readers to get familiar with this line-up as changes are coming. The close is a solid send-off not only for the team, but the creators and the readership. It’s a bittersweet piece that reminds all what defines the Titans to others.

Woods gives a solid flashback to the team discussing Terra’s fate. Their discussion is filled with mixed emotions due to the past experiences. This quickly speeds to a full shot of the present, with Terra in all her villainy. The unstable force attempts to take her victory lap while Raven tries being a voice of reason. More flashbacks add to the gravity of her choice. It also allows readers to get a sense of her gameplan. Readers can make their own calls on how the gamble plays. This allows a segway into a key point of the Titans future.
The Donny Try portion kicks off with a near full shot of Grail tormenting the Titan. This allows for a few familiar faces to enter the fray via full page. It provides some solid action panels before quickly wrapping up this portion. From here, it is straight ahead to the final act. Watching the team get together one last time shows their genuine caring. It crafts a happier mood heading into an unknown future. The final panel is a perfect goodbye to readers as the next phase looks to shake things up.
FINAL GRADE: 8.5
The Titans make their final stand in the midst of DC K.O.! Layman parts from the series with a solid send-off. Woods creates a heavily emotional issue via the art. It is always a challenge to say goodbye but have hope for a greater future.
