THE PATRON #3 (IGNITION PRESS)
Luce has been trapped by Clyde and is being grilled on if she is the one sending the artwork to Mr. Cherish. Thankfully, Tabitha busts in the room just in time to save Luce from the psychopath. But before they can catch him, he gets hit by a car and kidnapped by men in black suits. Now Luce and Tabitha are comparing notes as they try to close in on Mr. Cherish and his evil schemes. Unfortunately for everyone involved in this story, Mr. Cherish may not be the most evil force in this story anymore.

WRITING:
Even when the story tries to take a step back to establish some more details, it still delivers the intrigue and excitement we’ve become accustomed to. Christian Ward takes a step back in the story to help us understand some of what is playing out. We find out Luce is not responsible for the new pieces of art and that Mr. Cherish and Clyde have gone after the wrong person. This allows for a natural meeting of Luce and Tabitha to set up the protagonist team. But just when we think this issue will be set up and possibly filler, Ward hits us with some amazing excitement and mystery. Finding out that there is a new threat that may make Mr. Cherish look like Bob Ross was not on my bingo card, but I’m glad we’re here. The way Ward has set up the series and teased where we are headed, to only once again take a complete turn really keeps all of us on our toes and this series a must read!
ARTWORK:
As amazing as this story is, the artwork is just as amazing! John J. Pearson once again brings some amazing and stunning art to life on the pages of this issue. The artwork will make you look at this book two or three times after consuming it the first time. Every page is filled with artwork that belongs in a museum or a high-end art dealer. I’m starting to believe that Pearson has sold himself to Mr. Cherish as the artwork keeps outdoing itself from issue to issue. The artwork in this series solidifies Pearson as one of the premier artists in the comic book industry today and should have him at the very least nominated for an Eisner this upcoming year. Add to the artwork some amazing lettering by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou, and you have one of the best-looking books on the shelves.

Final Thoughts:
The Patron #3 continues the series’ impressive momentum, giving Luce and Tabitha room to compare notes before unleashing another sharp turn in the mystery. Christian Ward keeps the suspense unpredictable by introducing a threat that may be even more dangerous than Mr. Cherish, while John J. Pearson delivers haunting, museum-worthy artwork on every page. Together with Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou’s excellent lettering, the creative team has produced one of the most striking and compelling books on the shelves. This is an essential addition to your collection and an immediate must for your Pull List.
